The Invention Of Ageing

This is an open and independent investigation around the following question:

Did we, as animals, invent ageing evolutionarily?

There are a few animals, most notably hydras, with neglegible scenescence that can still die from injury, disease or lack of available resources, but don't seem to deteriorate as they get older.

If that's the case, does that mean that, at some point, there was an evolutionarily advantage that introduced ageing?

If so, what was that point in the branch of life?

What was that advantage that defined the purpose of ageing?
